Cedar products can be stained, oiled, painted or left to weather naturally.

Cedar contains a natural wood preservative that protects it from insects and decay. Left unfinished, it will turn a silvery/dark grey. Some checking and splitting of the wood will occur.

The following applications can be used to maintain the cedar’s natural color or change the color of the wood, and prevent bleaching from the sun.

Oils: Apply annually to maintain the wood’s natural color and prevent splitting and cracking.

Transparent Stains: Come in a wide variety of colors, are easy to apply and last longer than an oil finish.

Solid Stains: Recommended over paint. Solid stains come in a vast array of colors, are easy to apply and help prevent the wood from checking and splitting. They also have a higher UV rating, which means they do not need to be applied as frequently.

Paint: Unlimited colors available. To ensure the paint will not crack or peel, first apply an oil primer and then use a latex paint.
